Youth Character Initiative (YCI)
Youth Character Initiative (YCI) is a summer program for youth who just completed grades 5th and 6th. The program is available through generous grants from the Andersen Corporation, the Hugh J Andersen Foundation, the New Richmond Area Community Foundation, and the St. Croix Valley United Way. The focus of YCI is to provide youth with a fun summer experience with the base of activities cemented by the 40 Developmental Assets. Each week YCI participants will work together, practice leadership skills, help others through community centered projects, and have lots of fun at the Centre.
YCI programming runs Monday through Thursday each week throughout the summer, with the exception of the week of July 1st. There will be a field trip option each week on Fridays for YCI participants. The field trip will be an additional cost, which will vary depending on the trip itself. All field trip costs are listed below. Each week features a different theme as we explore nature, science, sports, technology, and more and how they relate to leadership and the 40 Developmental Assets. Throughout the summer we will complete service learning projects, participate in reading buddies from Camp Centre, get creative through discovery and exploration, and much, much more! Each week includes swimming in the Centre pool and lots of outside fun. Our program runs from June 11th through August 31st, with no programming taking place the week of July 1st. There is a limit of 66 youth to enroll in the program.
